Most plant problems are easier to solve when you collect the same information every time: photos, watering, light, soil, drainage, pests, and recent changes.

Photo checklist

  • Whole plant from the front
  • Close-up of the damaged leaves
  • Leaf underside
  • Stem nodes and new growth
  • Soil surface
  • Pot drainage or garden bed area
  • Plant location and light source

Care checklist

  • Plant name, if known
  • Indoor or outdoor
  • Watering frequency and amount
  • Light level and window direction
  • Soil or potting mix type
  • Fertilizer or pest sprays used
  • Recent repotting, moving, heat, cold, or pruning
